Sexually transmitted infections
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are infections or diseases that are passed on during unprotected sex with an infected partner. This includes vaginal, anal or oral sex. Some STIs can be passed on just by skin-to-skin contact.
There are ways that you can reduce your risk of catching or passing on an STI. Safer sex means not allowing your partner's body fluids (blood, semen, vaginal fluids) into your body and vice versa. It can also mean covering up parts of the body that might be infectious (such as herpes, sores or warts) when you are having sex.
