Having a baby at King Edward Memorial Hospital

King Edward Memorial Hospital is WA’s tertiary referral centre for complex pregnancies and high-risk birth.

It offers world-class care and wide-ranging support services to WA women with complicated pregnancies and infants born prematurely.

King Edward Memorial Hospital also accepts women with low-risk pregnancies who live in the local area.

Women with a low-risk pregnancy who wish to receive maternity care at King Edward Memorial Hospital must live within the following postcodes:

Facilities

These include:

  • 15 modern birthing suites, 13 with ensuites
  • deep baths for pain management during labour
  • 3 dedicated maternity wards
  • 80 cot neonatal nursery
  • Family Birth Centre on site for low-risk pregnancy and birth.

    • Maternal Fetal Medicine department for high-risk pregnancies
    • Midwifery Group Practice – available to women within the local area (see postcode list above) that are less than 32 weeks pregnant. For more information contact the clinic or ask your midwife at your next antenatal appointment to refer you to the program.

Students at King Edward Memorial Hospital

King Edward Memorial Hospital is a teaching hospital and helps train WA's future health professionals.

During your stay in hospital you may have student doctors, midwives, nurses and allied health professionals as part of the team caring for you.

Overseas visitors

If you are an overseas visitor and not eligible for Medicare cover, you can pay to receive treatment at King Edward Memorial Hospital as an overseas ineligible patient or an overseas student patient.
